The Problem:
A European instrument manufacturer is forced to provide NiMH pack replacements for NiCad packs already used in instruments in the field, due to environmental regulations.
The Solution:
On-board circuitry in the new battery pack allows the customer to continue using the old unit without additional modification.
European environmental standards no longer tolerate the use of cadmium found in NiCad batteries. Aved Electronics engineered a retrofit solution for an audiological instrument manufacturer which used NiMH technology to replace existing NiCad packs. On-board circuitry was designed to regulate the input charging voltage, current, and duration to protect the battery pack from heat-related failure. Tight space requirements demanded a unique use of embedded molding in the placement of sensor components within the structure of the existing design. Aved Electronics was able to provide a successful solution that was transparent to the OEM’s customer base.

The Problem:
You need a battery power solution for a low cost consumer product.
The Solution:
An Aved Electronics custom configured pack utilizing top name components.
As a master distributor for top brand manufacturers like Saft America, Renata, Eveready, Duracell and Rayovac, Aved Electronics has the ability to combine the best technology at the lowest cost. Understanding the latest developments in anode, cathode, and electrolyte technology, we can help you choose the best primary solution for your portable applications, and then create a custom configured pack to meet those needs.

The Problem:
A Raid controller with minimal board space needs a high temperature solution.
The Solution:
A lithium ion battery pack configured with prismatic cells.
The key to this challenge was not only to design a low profile battery pack, but to somehow save as much component real estate as possible. The first step in reducing the size was going from 4 NiMH cells to 2 Lithium Ion prismatic cells. This both cut the size in half and also answered any concerns about the high temperature of the application. Next, Aved Electronics created a unique bracket designed to raise the entire battery pack up high enough to allow the board to be fully populated with components underneath it, but low enough not to interfere with other height restrictions.

The Problem:
A mobile medical intravenous unit in need of a highly reliable and durable power solution.
The Solution:
A snap on battery pack with excellent portability, long run time, and ease of user handling and replacement.
A Saft VRE-C 2.3AH NiCad cell was chosen because it allowed the battery pack to perform to 150% of the expected run time. The pack also needed to be durable enough to withstand a two meter drop shock. A cylindrical design using rigid PVC plastics was developed to protect the battery. The result was an electrically isolated tube capable of withstanding 300 ft/lbs. of pressure that could be snapped into place quickly and easily. Internally, the battery assembly needed to be shock resistant. Aved Electronics devised a cell interconnect method utilizing a combination of pure nickel straps, nickel-plated steel rings, rivets, and end caps. Vibration was controlled through specifically designed rubber gaskets and Mylar spacers. Utilizing the latest advances in resistance welding, Aved Electronics completed the design of a rechargeable battery pack that would perform to the high standards required.

The Problem:
A hand held point-of-sale instrument needs a lightweight user-replaceable power solution.
The Solution:
An ultrasonically welded Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack designed to snap on to the back of the device.
Six NiMH cells best suited the power requirements of the application and were encapsulated in a plastic enclosure, then ultrasonically welded. The enclosure was designed to snap on to the back of the device, allowing the end user easy access to replacing the pack. This also allowed for a second battery pack to be sold with the unit or as an after market item. By placing the battery power external to the device, board real estate is saved, correct polarization is assured and the possibility of failures due to wiring or connectorization are virtually eliminated. Aved Electronics can help you design a “snap-on” battery powered solution for your application with unlimited possibilities in configuration, shape, size, chemistry, voltage and capacity.
