The Problem:
A mobile medical intravenous unit in need of a highly reliable and durable power solution.

The Solution:
A snap on battery pack with excellent portability, long run time, and ease of user handling and replacement.

A Saft VRE-C 2.3AH NiCad cell was chosen because it allowed the battery pack to perform to 150% of the expected run time. The pack also needed to be durable enough to withstand a two meter drop shock. A cylindrical design using rigid PVC plastics was developed to protect the battery. The result was an electrically isolated tube capable of withstanding 300 ft/lbs. of pressure that could be snapped into place quickly and easily. Internally, the battery assembly needed to be shock resistant. Aved Electronics devised a cell interconnect method utilizing a combination of pure nickel straps, nickel-plated steel rings, rivets, and end caps. Vibration was controlled through specifically designed rubber gaskets and Mylar spacers. Utilizing the latest advances in resistance welding, Aved Electronics completed the design of a rechargeable battery pack that would perform to the high standards required.
